Another Ponder ... and A Vintage Card!

Here I am … pondering in my little corner again!

Just take a look at this……

Spy the pen pot!!
My not-so-little stash of Christmas cards to write!!  Quite a task!
Aren’t I lucky to have so many family and friends to send cards to?

Oooh – I just love the sound of the postie dropping cards through the letterbox at this time of year!!

Even during the day and evening the letterbox is busy swallowing cards from local people who hand deliver!!

Talking about Christmas cards…. Just take a look at this one….

.....My very first Christmas card!!
Now that is what you call vintage!!

I bring it out every year and put it on display!

Not sure why this is the only card that was kept from my baby years – maybe it’s because it is in book form and tells a story.

The front & back of the card shows a completed picture!
Ah, isn’t that sweet?

Just going back to the first photo again - did you spy my little pen pot?

A cute little way to cover a jam jar!

This is one of the first things we made in our crochet class at Jenny's (who feeds us scrumptious cranberry & white chocolate biccies) from the Knitting Basket in Hawes with MarmaladeRose http://www.marmaladerose.co.uk

I became quite addicted and made a cover for nearly every jar in the house!

A jar is not a jar until it has a cover!!

Nativity figures coming along nicely - will post more pics soon.

‘Isn’t It Nice To Be Nice?’

Many years ago when walking my two daughters to and from infant school we used to pass a house where a man was often tending to his garden.
We got to know this man – Ernie – Ernie Frost and his lady friend, Peggy (who he always referred to as: ‘aye, she waarms me feet!’) In a thick northern accent.

Ernie always stopped to chat.  He would share Peggy’s cakes and biscuits with us. He would tell us what he’d planted in the garden and show the girls little shoots of plants as they grew and let the girls pick the flowers when they were in bloom.  If he wasn’t outside then he would always wave from the window.

The girls always looked forward to seeing Ernie and would eagerly show him what they had made at school that day.

Ernies parting words were always, ‘Eeeh, isn’t it nice to be nice?’

‘Isn’t it nice to be nice?’ became a catchphrase between my daughters and me!

As the girls grew into teenagers and moved school we’d see Ernie riding his bike in town and he’d wave and call out ‘Nice to be nice!’

Years passed and I’d see him in the local pub with Peggy and he’d say to me ‘Eeeh I miss seeing those bonny bairns going to school.  Give them my love and tell them it’s nice to be nice!’

Time has marched on, the girls have left home, Ernie has died but often when I’m pondering in my little corner my mind wanders back to my daughters’ school days and I fondly remember Ernie.

And yes, isn’t it nice to be nice?!

Take Time To Watch The Birdies!

Happy December!

Look who’s come to see me today!!

We first met a year ago and it’s been many months since he was last here. I’ve missed him so much…….

Woody Woodpecker
Oh, and look!  Cooey!

Two Collared Doves
Most of today has been spent watching our little feathered friends in the garden. They seem so happy here ……..

Bird Feeding Station
....and while they are feasting on treats we have provided for them they are leaving the berries on the holly tree for me!

Holly Tree
I do like to decorate the house with lots of holly from our own tree at Christmas.  This tree has been here long before us.  We don’t know who planted it or how old it is but every year I give thanks to that person for giving us something to treasure.

Don't get caught up in the commercialism this Christmas - look at the natural beauty around you.....

Cosy Night

Hello!
Brrrrr - this weeks been a cold one.
Hate getting out of bed on cold mornings don't you?  First coffee of the day doesn't warm you through so you have a second....then you go hunting for extra layers of clothes to wear to keep warm.  And, then there's the hassle of de-icing the car - have to give yourself extra time before you go anywhere.  At this time of the year my favourite time is when all the daily tasks are over and we snuggle down in front of a cosy fire. Come on in and take a look ..

Does that give you a warm glow?
Pardon?
Why are the plates on the hearth?
Oh, it's fish n chip night in our house tonight. His nibbs will be back any minute with them. Yummy, yummy!!
While we waiting I will show you how I've progressed with the knitted nativity figures. Take a look -

Remember the knitted pieces in my last post? Doesn't look like a scarecrow now does he?! This is one of the kings.  I can be a little disobedient at times and do not always follow patterns to the full - already I'm thinking of adding one or two jewels to this little man.
Watch this space for the finished set!
Have a good weekend and take care in this icy weather.

A Peek!

Hi!
Here's a peek of some of my knitting - this post is called my crafty corner after all! Tis only fair I show you something I'm working on!

Knitted Nativity Figures

I've knitted all the pieces but putting them together is my least favourite bit and takes me AGES!!
The yellow king on the left looks like a scarecrow don't you think?!! I'll have to work on him!!
We'll see how far I've progressed next time I post.
Have a lovely time whatever you're up to this weekend.
